Dream After Death... Truth or Just Mind Tricks?

~ Posted on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 8:36 AM ~

I'm a Christian (baptised since 2005) and although I think there are spirits, I don't think we should be scared of them as our God is more powerful than anything. I do believe in heaven and hell and that after we passed away, it's either heaven or hell.

Chinese people have a belief that after someone passed away, within the first 49 days, they will dream of their loved ones (the one who passed away) and some even reported that by the 49th day, the spirit will come back home for the last time before they moved on.

When my dad passed away in April 2006, I dreamt of him in the first week after he passed away. He was resting on his bed in our old flat, he looked so at peace and he wore all white. So white that it was shining bright. And yet, I could see his legs all straight and in good condition. You see, my dad had gout for decades and because of that, his legs are crooked and his knuckles are swollen in certain places as well. But in my dream, he looked perfect and was in his prime age (around 40-ish). I was so happy to see him in that condition.

When my mum passed away in January 2007, my first dream of her was quite disturbing and I woke up crying for her. In that dream, my mum was sitting on the floor, hugging her knees together and just crying and rocking her body to and fro. I also saw her brothers and sisters (my uncles and aunts - all still alive now) in the dream but it was just my mum in the dream, moving and crying because the chair she sat on broke, her siblings ignored her and I woke up feeling sorry for her.

The next dream I had of her (still within the 49 days), she was sitting in this white colored luxurious car (sorry don't know brand, I only remember it was long and looks like a convertible which is a rare sight in Malaysia). So anyway, I was just staring at my mum in the car, and she was waving her right hand, smiling so happily as if she's going to a better place (which I chose to believe she is).

Now, why I'm mentioning this in my post today is because I was having a conversation with hubby and his sister few days back and I mentioned to them about my dream when their dad (aka my FIL) passed away in Dec 2003. I was still dating my hubby then and I stayed overnight at hubby's house the day his dad passed away to help out with the funeral arrangements the day after.

In my dream, hubby's dad told me something and I've so far only casually mentioned this once to one of his family members. But the recent case where I mentioned this to hubby and his sister, I learned that the same message I was told by his dad in my dream was what his dad said when he was dying. I only got to hubby's place a few hours after his dad passed away so I absolutely had no idea what his dad said before he passed away and to be honest, hubby only mentioned this few days ago.

I was shocked to hear that... as it is so eerily creepy to find out what I dreamed of is what he heard in reality.

So back to my topic today... dream after death... is it the truth or mind tricks? I chose to believe it's the truth...

Potty Training Updates...

~ Posted on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 7:39 AM ~

It's been almost a month since I last blogged about my 2 kiddos' potty training progress!

Just a brief history for all of you who are new to my blog, I blogged about starting Ben back on his potty training in February 2012 after months of delaying it (Alyson came along in September 2011 and I had to pause Ben's potty training since then) and even listed down some short, medium and long terms goals that I looked forward to accomplishing with Ben. Then I also blogged about the precious sight I get to see - Ben finally pooping in his potty! (instead of diapers which he always insisted on), and revisiting those goals I set in February 2012 against the progress in early May 2012 and checking off the ones we achieved 3 weeks later, and now...

Goals Set in Dec 2012

Updates in 10th Dec 2012

(45 months old)

Updates in 4th Jan 2013

(46 months old)

Short Term: To move on to peeing into the toilet seat

Completed!

Ben is able to pee into the toilet seat nowadays!

Completed! There are few times I forgot to put the toilet seat up, so my boy ended up peeing into the drain hole next to our toilet seat (which he then washes off by pouring a bucket of water on the floor) but otherwise, he will go for toilet seat.

Medium Term: To go diaper-free during his afternoon naptime after the above goal is met

Achievable!

Completed! It has been over a month since my boy last wore a diaper for his afternoon nap.
Long Term: To poop in the toilet seat

Achievable!

I've been prepping my boy up for this, telling him gently to try pooping in the toilet seat instead of his trusted potty. Waiting for the right moment to do this... stay tuned!
Long Term: To go diaper-free during his bedtime To try this task soon... Completed! It has been 3 weeks since my boy last wore a diaper for his bedtime.

About the night time potty training, how I started this off is to observe few nights, gently asking my boy whether he wants to try going to sleep without his diaper and the first time he said 'Yeah!', I was so thrilled! I told him if he can sleep through the night without any accidents, mummy will tell daddy the next morning and daddy will surely go 'Whoaaaaa!' and the next morning, we woke up and yes, no accidents at all. I immediately ran with my boy to his daddy (he's up earlier and working next door) and broke the news. Daddy knowing our plan immediately went 'WHOAAAA! Big boy!' and we saw our proud boy beaming happily. The next few days, my boy reverted back to wearing his diaper when I asked him so I just let him decide and not push him at all. Then about 4-5 days after that, I asked him again, and he said OK. Since then, no more diapers needed!

I checked with my SIL (she has 6 kids) and she advised us to wake Ben up halfway sleeping so he could pee in his potty instead letting him sleep through the entire night and holding it in his bladder for 8-9 hours. To be honest, it was already 3 days my boy went without diapers before I told my SIL on his latest milestones and never once I woke him up to pee. I also know my 2nd BIL woke his son up every night at 3am to pee in his potty (for about 2 years they did that).

Nowadays if I sleep late or I woke up halfway or I woke up early, I will get my boy to pee in his potty. But that is if I remember he drank a lot before going to bed. Else I will let him sleep through.

As for my 16 months old girl, nothing new to report for now... So there you go, looks like we are getting almost all of the goals soon for Benjamin! Thank God for this and for my dear boy to be so good in following through his potty training!

We are all so proud of you both, Benjamin & Alyson!

Heaviest and yet the Lightest

~ Posted on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 7:40 AM ~

When our 3rd kiddo was born on 30th September 2013, she was the heaviest among her siblings, weighing 3.02kg at birth compared to Benjamin who weighed at 2.73kg and Alyson weighed at 2.91kg. I think this may partly be due to the fact that I ate a lot more when I was pregnant with Carolyn - or put on the weight easily.

But then when we brought Carolyn to the paed for her overdue Hep B 2nd dose jab when she was 2.5 months old (btw, the jab was supposed to be taken at 1month old hahaha), Carolyn weighed 6.03kg.

Of course I cannot compare her siblings weights to hers as she was 2.5 months old when she had this weight.

At 3 months old, Benjamin weighed 6.9kg.

At 3 months old, Alyson weighed 6.7kg.

At 2.5 months old, Carolyn weighed 6.03kg

I think this may partly be due to the fact that with 3 kiddos now to take care, my breastmilk does not contain as much fat content compared to the previous 2 rounds. The fact that I have to care for 2 older kiddos (hyperactive all the time) and also a newborn that clings as much as she can to me at all times made me used up more fat in my body perhaps? I don't know. I heard this theory from my SIL who had 6 kiddos of her own.

So what do you think?
