Third Pregnancy at month 6...

~ Posted on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 7:04 AM ~

This post is to journal down the 6th month+ of my third pregnancy now! I realised I did not blogged much about this pregnancy, compared to my previous one which I blogged religiously every month. But that is because with this pregnancy, I didn't see our gynae every month for check up. Anyway here goes the update:

* APPETITE

Sweet sugary stuff rages on this month.. so much that I practically guzzled soft drinks or packet drinks every day and treat myself to a slice of cake or sweet buns or ice cream every other day....

* WEIGHT GAIN

Image taken from Google search

Last month, I reported that I have not been gaining weight at all! I remembered experiencing the same thing with my 1st pregnancy until my gynae had to force me to drink UHT full cream milk EVERYDAY. I am doing that since 20th May and I'm now at 50kg. So that makes weight gain of 5kg in 6 months+ time...

* GYNAE CHECK-UPS

My second check-up with gynae was on 6th June 2013 but I was attended by another specialist instead of my chosen gynae (who was caught up with appointments elsewhere). According to the replacement gynae, baby is growing well, estimated weight is 500g for 24 weeks pregnancy and we were not able to see the baby's gender due to the legs covering up the genital area hahaha... but according to the gynae, he is not able to detect any ping-pong balls yet... so we'll see...

* BREASTFEEDING DURING PREGNANCY

Yes, like what I did with Benjamin when I was pregnant with Alyson, I nursed him throughout the pregnancy. This round? Same. I think my milk has dried up few weeks back but like her brother, Alyson does not seem to be bothered and continued to comfort dry suckling from me whenever she wants and before her sleeptime. Though I do noticed tiny dots of dried up milk on my nipples lately, signs of colostrum returning? :)

* BABY MOVEMENT

Yes, I started feeling the tiny flutters in my tummy at month 4 actually and have been using Babyplus gadget 2 weeks ago twice a day (9am and 9pm) and the kicks are getting stronger everyday.

(*** NEW!) GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST (GTT)

New thing to report this month! The replacement gynae told us that I can do the GTT test before my next check-up at 28 weeks pregnancy, so I immediately contacted our family GP so that I can do the GTT test at his clinic instead of having to go to the hospital to do it (very troublesome!)

This test is to be taken at 7th month pregnancy, especially if you have family history of having diabetes. Both my parents had them and my mum passed away due to total kidney failure caused by diabetes. My results was normal when I was pregnant with my 2nd child.

So, the night before the test, I started fasting from 10pm, taking only plain water and nothing else, and waited till the next morning 10am to have my blood test (just a little prick on my finger) and was given this  300ml glucose solution to drink.

Result: My blood sugar level before the taking the drink is 4.1 (anything below 6 is normal) and after 2 hrs (only take plain water) is 8.5 (normal reading is between 6.1 to 7). OH NO!!!!! I immediately SMS-ed my gynae asking for his advice on what to do and was given the following instructions:

1. Buy a glucometer from local pharmacy. I'll need to do a self-blood sugar test where I use this device to prick my fingers, get a small dot of blood and smeared it on the test strip on the glucometer and wait for the results in 5 seconds.

2. Do self blood sugar test by following these timing:

- 8am after fasting

- half hour before breakfast and 2 hours after breakfast

- half hour before lunch and 2 hours after lunch

- half hour before dinner and 2 hours after dinner

- right before bedtime 10pm

3. Report the results to gynae and he'll decide the next steps (which will be diet change if results still bad)

So there you go, updates as at 6 months+ pregnancy... have a blessed week and thank you for reading!

Need to get away? Why not go for a family holiday trip?

~ Posted on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 1:04 AM ~

It is still the school holidays season here in Malaysia, and yes, even though I'm a stay-at-home mum and our 2 kiddos are not at the school-going age at the moment, I do feel the need to go for a short getaway, a trip for the family you know?

As a stay-at-home mum, one of the things I look forward to is taking a short break from home, to be away with my family on a holiday, just relaxing and not being cooped up in the house. And what more now that I've started teaching my 4 years old boy and we are pretty much at home most of the time. All the more reasons we should pack up and go for a nice little getaway!

And because of the school holidays season, I've been seeing posts shared by friends and ex-colleagues about them enjoying some family fun on summer holidays, with pictures posted on Facebook, Seoul, UK, United States, Bali, Hong Kong, and many many more! Arghh.. total envy, envy!

Just in case you are wondering why don't I do something about this since I badly wanted a holiday, well, I did purchased some travel vouchers few months back with the intention to have my small family of four enjoying a weekend breaks for everyone at a historical town about few hours traveling distance by car.

We normally go to family-friendly and near to the places of interests particularly beach area and with lots of good places with delicious food to eat but this time, I decided on going to a historical city with tons of delicious foods to try out and there is a nice little swimming pool in the hotel that our kids can go to with their daddy to have some kiddy-fun time, but as for this going to be heavily pregnant mummy, I am very much looking forward to eat all the yummy foods I can find!

Sadly, I have yet to be able to find the right weekend to redeem the travel vouchers as of now. It's either hubby's schedule is too packed, or we have church classes and doctor's appointment for the kids and myself (for my preggy bump!). I do hope to be able to redeem the vouchers by July this year, since I'm due to deliver our third child in September 2013!

What about you? Do you have any family holiday trip?

Third Pregnancy at month 5...

~ Posted on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 7:43 AM ~

Ladies and gentlemen, we are cruising into the 5th month+ of my third pregnancy now! I realised I did not blogged much about this pregnancy, compared to my previous one which I blogged religiously every month. But that is because with this pregnancy, I didn't see our gynae every month for check up. Anyway here goes the update:

* APPETITE

So-so, depends on what foods are being served. Some foods that I used to love eating (like eggs) are still a turn-off for me. Tofu, potato are OK on the other hand. My all-time favorite fast food, good ol' McDonalds are still OK at this stage. My passion for sweet chocolate-y stuff just came back a week ago so yeahhhhh....

* WEIGHT GAIN

Image taken from Google search

I have not been gaining weight at all! I remembered experiencing the same thing with my 1st pregnancy until my gynae had to force me to drink UHT full cream milk EVERYDAY. I am doing that since 20th May and in 4 days, have gained 2kgs already (I'm now at 47kg). Basically if I eat something now, I go to 47kg, else 46kg...

* GYNAE CHECK-UPS

My first (and only so far!) check-up with gynae was when I was at 10 weeks pregnancy and because I was kinda lazy to be lugging 2 kiddos along every month to the hospital for my check-ups, have negotiated with my gynae to cut down my check-ups. My next one was supposed to be at 28 weeks pregnancy but I have earlier on 20th May 2013 called up my gynae to schedule an additional check-up just to be safe and make sure baby is growing normally (due to my initial concerns of not gaining weight)

* BUMP SIZE

My tummy at the beginning of 5th month is really not that visible - picture below taken on 4th May 2013 when we went for a day trip at the KL Bird Park.

And picture below taken the day after, 5th May 2013 right after I exercised my rights as a Malaysian citizen! Our 13th General Election! My bump wasn't that noticeable as nobody let me cut queues as I waited in line for my turn to cast my vote -____-

* BREASTFEEDING DURING PREGNANCY

* BABY MOVEMENT

Yes, I started feeling the tiny flutters in my tummy at month 4 actually and have been using Babyplus gadget 2 weeks ago twice a day (9am and 9pm) and the kicks are getting stronger everyday.

So there you go, updates as at 5 months+ pregnancy... have a blessed week and thank you for reading!
