I saw a YouTube tutorial on how to turn your smartphone into a 3D hologram and was having a bit of a challenge thinking what I could use to substitute one of the main components required for this project.
In the YouTube tutorial, you need the following items to make this project: graph paper, plastic transparent CD case, tape or super glue, pen, scissors, smartphone, knife or glass cutter.
I skipped through most of the items required and decided to MacGyver-ised my own stuff. I totally omitted the graph paper, the CD case and the knife or glass cutter. Instead of using the CD case (which I don't have actually hence the need to turn into a McGyver), I thought of using one of the things I have in my study room. A lot of it actually. Was thinking about it in my head and decided to give it a try.
So anyway, instead of using a CD case and knife or glass cutter to cut the case, I use a laminating pouch sheet. I know I am so clever hahahahaha... I looked up a printable template for the trapezoid shape and print out a copy of it on an A4 size paper. From there I flipped open the laminating pouch sheet and trace out the trapezoid shape from the printed A4 copy earlier. I used up as much space I can have on the laminating sheet and once done, let it run through the laminator machine.
Once laminated, just use a scissor to cut out the shape and fold according to the dotted lines. To secure the trapezoid shape together, just cut a tiny bit of loytape and close up the 2 sides together.
Then go search in YouTube for holographic videos and put your DIY trapezoid shape onto your smartphone and voila.... enjoy the 3D show! When the minions popped up in the hologram projector, our 4 year old girl can't resist and want to touch the figure hahahah!
So I repeat, this is a tried and tested working success quick project that uses the following items:
-
A piece of transparent laminating pouch & laminator machine
-
A piece of A4 paper (for your trapezoid template)
-
Printable trapezoid template (go to this website for her template, I don't know what language is that but just download the PDF in the link shown)
-
Scissors and pen to trace the trapezoid shape
-
Loytape
-
Smartphone
Of course, if you don't have laminating pouch or laminator machine, another alternative you can try is those plastic toy packaging. You know these toy packages often have transparent plastic covers? Cut those up and recycle it! I don't have them hence I use laminating sheets which is pretty much as thick as those plastic covers anyway.
I am really excited and happy with our results and not to forget, my MacGyverism LOL! Here are some of the ones we got. Enjoy!!
