Teaching & Learning Moment - Counting

~ Posted on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 6:20 AM ~

I like to bring our kiddos to the playground whenever situations and weather permits. As usual, one morning after dropping off our oldest kiddo at kindy, I brought our girls to the playground and it rained earlier in the morning so the place was still a bit wet and the playground equipments are still wet so we ended up just walking around the playground while I tried looking for things to show our girls to keep them interested.

Then I saw this peculiar flower / leave looking things on the ground and I realised there are quite a number of them. Probably flowers falling off from one of the trees at the playground. So I called our girls over, told them to pick up some of them and I sort them out on the ground. Then I started counting and arranging them in a straight line and then into pairs and even purposely mess up the arrangement and let our girls sort it back themselves hehehehe... Both girls happily counted and arranged it back and it was fun while it lasted.

Teaching & Learning Moment

Now why this falls into the 'Teaching & Learning Moments!'?

* I get to teach our girls and reinforce their basic counting (until 10 for both girls now).

* I get to teach our girls to arrange objects in order/sequence and grouping.

* I get to let our girls practise their motor skills and finger grasping skills when they picked up the flowers and carefully arranged them on the ground.

Win-win!

Sewing Project - Hooded Bath Towels

~ Posted on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 5:30 AM ~

I bought my first ever sewing macchine in April 2015, the Global Sewing Machine GSM-505. The first thing I tried to do using the sewing machine was to repair my hubby's torn pants and jeans, followed by my diaper bag and our toddler's rompers. Then I made some hand towels.

And a few months earlier, I bought some bath towels and face towels in preparation to DIY hooded bath towels for our kiddos. Why hooded bath towels? I thought it would be nice to DIY something like this which they can use everyday and practical as well. Too often especially whenever we bring our kiddos for a swim at my sis-in-law's condo, I wished our kiddos could have hooded towels to cover their head and keep themselves warm.

I made the 1st one by hand and this is how it turned out... I know, uneven hand sewing but I haven't bought my sewing machine then and I thought it can be done with hand - well, yes, in a way, it can but not as nice...

So I put the project on hold as I realised it would be so much better if done using a sewing machine and then I realised, I needed to learn some sewing skills! And finally for today's post, I'm sharing my 2nd mini sewing project, which is Hooded Bath Towels!

A bit tricky when sewing certain areas but with patience and perseverance, I made it! But I'm not good with those ribbon clasp thingy yet LOL

To end my post, I am very happy with my second mini project and hope to do more sewing stuff when time permits!

Dinner - Before & After

~ Posted on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 7:29 AM ~

Last year, I wrote about a look back into my home-cooked journey so far. Then shortly before the end of 2014, I wrote a post on my preparation when cooking. Then I thought, "Why not snap a picture of before start cooking and the final results after cooking?"

So, here you go..

Left part of the picture is the ingredients all ready to be cooked on 24th March 2015. From top left (clockwise): Asian sea bass (siakap), a cup of chopped scallions, minced pork marinated with sugar, sweet soy sauce and cornstarch, a spoonful of sliced garlic and a bowl of sweet soy sauce with water and salt pepper.
