Say Cheesecake!

~ Posted on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 9:07 AM ~

I have not been posting about my baking adventure for a few months already! Though of course, I do still use the oven on and off - but more to roast chicken for Ben, or baked some pastry puffs and muffins here and there... Anyway few days back, I attempted my first cake baking recipe!

And as usual, my first attempts in baking stuff will always - always involve premix. Not that I'm lazy, but it's just that I'm not confident enough to measure and use the real ingredients for the first time. After trying for 2-3 times then only I will be brave enough to venture into measuring the proper flour, sugar and etc etc for cake baking process, so for now, premix will have to do... Anyway, without further ado, here goes:

CHEESECAKE

PREPARATION TIME: LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR

* About 5 minutes to mix & prepare the batter
* 25 minutes for baking process

Ingredients / Tool Required:

* 225 g cheese cake flour (premix)
* 150 g butter (I used salted butter instead)
* 3 eggs

* A bowl to mix ingredients in
* Kitchen scale
* 8 inch aluminium cake foil
* Baking sheet & paper

What to Do?

 * In a mixing bowl, stir the butter & eggs together for about 6-10 minutes.
* Add in the cheese cake flour slowly and continue stirring.
* Pour the batter into the aluminium cake foil.

BAKING PROCESS

* Set oven to 200℃ and bake for 25 minutes.
*
Remove from oven to cool on racks.

THE RESULTS

REACTIONS FROM MY "GUINEA PIGS"

ME
"Yummy, but kinda sweet!"
BEN

"More!" (this was on 2nd day)

HUBBY
"Hmm.. nice! But the top of the cake a bit burnt, should not bake so long, I guess..."
MIL
"Nice!"
BIL
"Nice, taste like cheesecake, but a bit hard" (this was on 2nd day)

So there you go.... my first attempt of baking a CHEESECAKE! Overall, I think the cheesecake should be eaten on the same day as apparently, when we ate the leftovers on 2nd day, it's kinda hard and dry compared to 1st day. I shall attempt this another round, maybe reducing the baking time (so that it won't be so burnt).

What brand of premix do you use? I usually do it the old-fashioned way - with cream cheese and all.

Hey Germaine!
Aiya, forgot to keep the pack Frown I also prefer to use the proper measurement of ingredients to bake things but for first time, I always use premix - that way I will know what went wrong and normally I can gauge better on the temperature and timing required cos my oven is forced fan type and needs some tweaking and practise to bake better.

Aries

This sounds easy to bake. I didn't know there is such a thing as cheese cake flour. Will go shopping for it and try baking soon.

Hey Aries!
Yeah, it's the first time I saw this cheese cake flour. I do have a pack of cake flour premix I bought sometime ago (not used yet thanks to lazy me Tong) but when I saw cheese cake flour, I went 'ooo.. must get and try this!'

I bought it from Tesco btw, forgot the brand Frown

Family Help

Looks yummy. I like it's puffiness. Just the other day we bake like this and the taste is very good. We used a premix coming from UAE brought by my sister.

Great job!!  Cheesecake is not my fav, but Ken really likes it.  This might be a good recipe to try for him Smile

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hi Family Help!
Oh tnanks! I was worried whether the cake should look like that or not! Tong

Hi Aurie!
Thank you! Will attempt few more rounds before I move on from the premix Smile

Mrs. T

I'll definitely have to try this!!

Dominique

We recently baked cheesecake too Smo'res cheesecake.. it's really yummy. Actually it's not too difficult mixing the ingredients and baking from scratch. I used to use premix when I first started out baking and still use premix for baking cookies but am using recipes that I find online and in the cookbooks that I have to bake.. they taste better then premixed and it takes the max 1hr to get it all done ( including baking).

Jenny @ I'm a full-time mummy

Hey Mrs. T!
You should! Go ahead! Smile

Hey Dominique!
Oh, I only use premix when I start baking something new. Lack of confidence I guess, better to trust something already measured and mixed up nicely and figured out what went wrong with the temperature, timing and oven instead of whether its the ingredients that are causing the problems. After a few rounds of experiments and more confident in the baking, I do switch to using and measuring the ingredients from recipes in books and online sites Smile

Hi Mummy, your cake looks really nice....can practically get the scent from here too.
But regret cheese is not on my food list, ha ha.....my wife loves cheese, but for some reason or other have not gone overboard for it....add Sushi too, ha ha.
I like that last mention by your guinea pigs, "taste like cheesecake, but abit hard...". Ha ha ha.
Bet it made you raise an eyebrow, huh?
Have fun, keep well, Lee.
ps, no margarine? Ha ha.

I love cheesecake, but don't make it often. At least you got some honest reactions.
