iPad App Review - Animals Babies and Homes

~ Posted on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 5:31 PM ~

Last year, I had the opportunity to review "Kids 1st Shape Puzzle" and "Trucks and Things That Go", a both are fun and educational apps for my boy to play with and this time, the same developer approached me again asking whether I would be interested in reviewing their latest app. Without further ado, here goes my feedback...

* As part of our learning activities, I am always looking for more activities and stuff that I can let my boy try and work on, whether from books or iPad apps, so I am very happy to be able to review this puzzle app as I hope he will learn where animals stay and also the names of the animals when they are babies and grown up.

* I like this app in the sense that I myself get to learn new things too! So yes, learning with my boy at the same time is kinda awesome as well!

Animals Babies and Homes

Room for Improvement?

* I would prefer to have some buzzer sound if the puzzle is placed incorrectly so that we can know that it is wrong. Maybe that's just my weird preferance.

* There are few occassions where I noticed the puzzle pieces are a bit not sensitive, meaning we need to put it really, really close to the puzzle shapes (shadows) to solve it. Unlike other puzzle apps we reviewed before, I find that these few occassions make us quite frustrated as we have to keep trying and moving the puzzle very slowly to ensure that it is almost fill up the shadow of the animal puzzle in order to solve it.

I think I would feel the same way about the puzzle needing some buzz or sound to let you know the piece is not in the right place.  But overall this sounds like a great app.

This looks like a great app, reminds me of the spinning wheel that makes the animal sounds when the arrow lands on the animal " and the cow says MOOO!!!" ;) Will try this out

Thank you for the review! I am always on the lookout for good educational apps to use with special needs kids at school! Hopefully they'll fix the sensitivity of the puzzle pieces placement, as that can be a struggle for kids with fine motor deficits. Smile
