Blog Tips: Getting Products to Review

~ Posted on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 8:33 AM ~

I have received a number of emails and comments from my followers asking how I get to review products and apps so I decided to list down my tips and post it (maybe weekly?) to share my experience and tips. Feel free to drop me an email or comment if you want to find out more or anything else.

Here goes my first tip:

JUST ASK!

Now what you need to do:

  • Browse around the Internet - look out for websites of the genre you are comfortable with - family friendly, fashion, IT etc etc

  • Imagine you are cyber shopping for a product you wanted for yourself, children, family etc.

  • If you see any products you would like to try, look out for a way to contact the company. Find their 'Contact Us' link and drop them an email

  • If there's no way to email (quite rare), see whether the company have other social medias such as Facebook page or Twitter accounts and try to contact them from there.

  • Make sure you have a professionally written pitch email when requesting for products to review!

It doesn't hurt to try,

the worse thing you can get is an email from them saying 'No'.

Just move on from there, you will surely get one awesome company who is eager to share their products with you!

There you go, my 1st blog tips on getting products to review.

Try it yourself and let me know the outcome!

Stay tuned for my next blog tips next week!

** P.S: Please note that it is always better if your blog has good following and good PR rank as these factors help a lot when you request for a product to review.

I'm Crowning a Different Kind of Head...

~ Posted on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 1:46 AM ~

Decided to go for this post title since I'm due with Spicy Baby any day now... hehehe... Anyway, for those of you who are not familiar with the term of 'crowning' during chilbirth, according to this website:

"During pushing and delivery, your baby's head will begin to make an appearance through your vaginal opening with each contraction. When your baby's head remains visible and does not slip back in, it is known as crowning."

Now, why I said I'm crowning a different kind of head (instead of a baby's duh...) Well, it's because my blog is finally getting a NEW head! Woohooo!!! After days of craving into my nesting instincts, it's finally ready! Take a look above! What do you think of it?

In case this is your first time here or you're already too mesmerised with the new header to remember how the old one looks like, I have luckily snapshot (for memories) the previous blog header look before I replaced it...

Buh-bye old blog header! You have served me well!

So yeah, I've earlier make my payment in the middle of this month and harrassed liaised with the designer with my compiled and revised and recompiled versions of the details I wanted for my new blog header. In between that time, the designer had some hiccups with his own website and my work was delayed a few days. I waited patiently as I really don't want to stress him out by rushing him to deliver my work (plus there are like 4-5 people queueing up before me) and since I used to be in IT line, I totally understand his frustration (in fixing his own website and trying to deliver his clients' work) and just waited for my turn patiently. (hoping I don't go into labour before it's done...hehehe)

Anyway, all those are in the past. What's lying in front of you now is the finished product. After days of liaising with the designer and also bugging my hubby for his feedback on the header, I'm comfortable to say THIS IS IT!

I'm really happy with the design and it's well worth the money I paid for (I actually paid the designer more than he normally charged as I do believe his work is worth the amount!) I think this is a nice gift for myself before Spicy Baby comes along any day now!

So what do you think of my newly crowned 'head'?

DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft

~ Posted on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 2:25 PM ~

In case you missed out, I have previously shared 2 tutorials on making your own DIY Chinese New Year Lantern (style 1 and style 2) as CNY is coming in a weeks time! So, here goes my tutorial on how to make your own fish craft:

What you need is: Red packets (or what we Chinese called 'Ang Pows')-quantity up to you, ensure it is square shape, stapler, scissors.

DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
Take 1 red packet which is exact square shape,
ensure the front is facing you, fold in half diagonally.
DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
Ensure the horizontal line is at the top. At the bottom
corner, cut about 1 inch, 45 degrees upwards.
DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
When you reached about 1 inch length, cut towards the
end of one of the horizontal edge.
DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
You will get something like the above.
Open up the folded red packet.
DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
With the folded line facing you vertically, cut the 'tail'
of the fish about 1.5 inch long.
DIY Chinese New Year Fish Craft
Take one side of the 'tail' and fold over to the other
side. Staple them together (where my thumb is)

The results? TADAAAAAAA!!!

If you're feeling more adventurous, you can string up the fishes with a string and hang it as a fish lantern. Or string each up and hang it on your Chinese orange tree. Else, you can just tape it to the wall like what I did. What I did was I just stick a double sided tape at the tail of the fish and they'll be good for wall or door decorations.

Hope you enjoy my simple tutorial!
