Dinner - Before & After

~ Posted on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 5:47 AM ~

Last year, I wrote about a look back into my home-cooked journey so far. Then shortly before the end of 2014, I wrote a post on my preparation when cooking. Then I thought, "Why not snap a picture of before start cooking and the final results after cooking?"

So, here you go..

Left part of the picture is the ingredients all ready to be cooked on 31st March 2015. From top left (clockwise): Choy Sum (washed, rinsed, chopped into inch long), a cup of sliced garlic (about 7-8 cloves), a bowl of sweet soy sauce + water + sugar, 2 eggs, a can of red beans, Asian sea bass (siakap).

Angpow Story - Scenery

~ Posted on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 5:11 AM ~

I have been sharing some of my favorite angpow pieces on an angpow collectors group in Facebook and some members have been telling me to continue sharing my memorable stories and so I thought, why not write it down, that way, our kiddos can read about it when they grow up next time, eh?

For those of you who are not familiar or never heard of the words 'Angpow' (also known as 'ang pau', 'ang pao', 'angpau'), here is a quick definition:

Angpow = Red Packet (filled with cash inside) given during festivals

So for today's angpow story, it comes from this 2 pieces of lovely angpows:

I absolutely love these angpows. Looks similar right? What's the story for them? Read on...

When I look at the
angpows, I remembered following my late mum back to her hometown during school holidays. Back then, we don't have a car (I think I was about 12-13 yrs old when my late dad bought a car for my brother) so our only mode of transport back to hometown is the public bus.

From red and white colored buses to green colored Foh Hup omnibus, from no air-cond to air-conditioned buses, my late mum and I sat through countless rides almost 2 hour long each journey to and fro Puduraya to Batu Arang, Selangor.

I always sat next to the window because I love to see the view outside. Long stretches of winding roads. Nothing but greenery and houses as we head towards the hometown.

Looking at these
angpows reminded me of these childhood times. What a sweet childhood memories!

Teaching & Learning Moment - Time

~ Posted on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 5:49 AM ~

Our first kiddo officially started his 3 weeks long holiday and first day of the month I was really really busy, as I need to process claims for April and May, chasing our clients for pending payment, issue invoices, issue purchase orders, assign software licenses, on top of keeping 3 kiddos busy and prepare soup and cook for tonight's dinner.

I've still got some items pending to do : change bedsheets and iron 3 weeks worth of working clothes. Gaaaaaaaa... anyway, took a few minutes off to gently guide our 6 years old boy to do the following. I printed out this piece of paper (source from Internet) which consists of 12 yellow circles with the minutes figures inside) and 2 leaves with hour and minutes printed on it and a stem to stick the leaves on.

I told our 6 years old boy to cut out the shapes according to the outline and helped him to double-side the shapes onto our Ikea wall clock. Currently in his kindy, he can tell the time by the hour and half past hour. Example, 10 o'clock or half past 5. But he can't yet tell me things like the time now is 'five forty five' or 'eight fifteen'.

Teaching & Learning Moment

Now why this falls into the 'Teaching & Learning Moments!'?

* I get to expose and teach our boy on how to tell time by the hours and minutes.

* Our boy gets to practise his paper cutting skills!

Win-win!
