Teaching & Learning Moment - Learning At The Park

~ Posted on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 5:52 AM ~

During the recent school holiday in June 2015, I brought our 3 kiddos out to the park to have our breakfast there, then I let them play at the playground a wee bit after they have their breakfast. I also packed along our kiddos wipe-erase boards and some flash cards. I feel learning should not just be confined to our house/study room. Here are some pictures taken during out playing + learning outing:

Sweet & Sour Stingray

~ Posted on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 6:05 AM ~

For this post, I am sharing my next food recipe, Sweet & Sour Stingray. I first tasted this dish a few years back and just loved it! Without further ado, here is the recipe for Sweet & Sour Stingray:

Ingredients:
* Stingray (
cleaned, dried as much as you can)
* Turmeric powder, salt & pepper to marinate stingray & cornflour to coat
* Babas' chili powder (about 2 tbsp)
* Onion slices
* 3-4 tbsp of Chili Garlic Sauce (Brand: Huy Fong Foods Inc.)
* 1 tbsp of Hot Chili Sauce (Brand: Huy Fong Foods Inc.)
* Sugar (about 1 tbsp), water (about half cup), lemon sauce (about 1 tsp)
* Oil for frying - about 2 ~ 3 tbsp

Methods:

* Make sure stingray is as dry as possible (use paper towel to absorb)
* Marinate
stingray with turmeric powder, salt and pepper before coating stingray with corn flour (to prevent it from sticking to the pan)
* Heat oil in frying pan, fry the onion slices for a minute or two.
* Fry the
stingray for about 4-5 minutes before frying the other side for about 3-4 minutes.
* Pour in the sweet and sour sauce mixture.
* Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes.
* If stingray flakes upon poking with chopstick or fork, then it is done.

Outcome:

Sweet & Sour Stingray

Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese - I'm Lost...

~ Posted on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 6:15 AM ~

Ever since I started kindergarten at 6 years old, I have been attending public schools (main language is Bahasa Malaysia) and during my earlier years, I mixed around with a lot of Malay friends and even spoke Bahasa with my elder brother at home (he also attends public schools), even to this day. So Bahasa Malaysia used to be my main language other than Cantonese and later on English (brushed up more when I met my hubby then boyfriend through snail mails, I had to practise and brush up my English as he doesn't speak Cantonese) Anyway, I think it is fun to be able to practise back and sharing what I know with those of you who are interested.

And so, here goes our next lesson: I'm Lost...

Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese

For those of you who are more often on Facebook, you can also find the tutorials on my Facebook fan page. I have created a "Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese!" album to store the phrases. Enjoy learning!
