Have You Heard of Bacterial Vaginosis?

~ Posted on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 4:19 PM ~

Oh wow... I learned something new today!

Bacterial Vaginosis.

The term bacterial vaginosis actually means an infection caused by an imbalance pH levels in our vagina. Yup, down there. I know, I know, when it comes to topics like this, most often we Asian women goes 'hush, hush' and sheepishly change the topic or remains quiet... but really, we should find out more on this and be equipped with the knowledge so that we don't end up getting it.

I mean, look at the image below. Up until I write this post, I have no idea what this is all about! And after reading about it and find out more on the symptoms, causes and what can be done to prevent it, I just have to share this information out to all my sisters out there!

As I was reading through the symptoms of this infection, I remembered these are the few things that I was told to look out for when I was pregnant. Unpleasant ‘fishy’ odour, abnormal discharge and discomfort down there, all these are the symptoms to be on the look out for. And I was surprised too when I read that this infection is not caused by poor hygiene. I mean, the first thing that came to my mind was 'must be not clean enough that's why causes all this infection!'. You should really read up on this infection to know more, don't just trust my words in this post.

In summary, this is an easy to prevent infection if only we know about it and prepared ourselves against it. So please for the sake of your health, read up on this!

Journey into Babywearing...

~ Posted on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 8:16 AM ~

8th August 2012 marks the day I babywear my 11 months old girl.

We have a baby sling given by someone when Ben was 1 month old but it was kept in the storeroom and I couldn't find it anymore! So decided to buy this very cheap baby sling instead (it's only RM36 ~ about USD12) and I like that it's small when you fold it back up (easy to bring along!) and that it can be adjusted accordingly (though I didn't adjust it at all!), I also love the color (I chose it myself!) as I'm trying not to get those fancy smancy flowery design, so yeah, I like what I bought :)

I'm still getting used to the baby sling. Not easy to put in my girl into the sling, but I think with practise, it'll be better over time.

iPad App Review - Luca Lashes and His First Haircut

~ Posted on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 5:38 PM ~

When I saw the opportunity to review this app, the first thing that came to my mind was "I need this app!" In case you don't know, I have been cutting my 3 years old boy's hair ever since day 1!

I don't see him complaining and I wouldn't mind IF I have the skills to cut hair... which I don't!! I do feel embarrassed at times when people asked me who cut my boy's hair as I think it must be his uhmmm... 'unique' hairstyle that caught their attention and prompted them to ask me that! So I hope this app will help my boy in the transition towards getting his hair cut by someone else other than mummy! Anyway, my review as below...

Description from the product page:

"Is it time for your little one's first haircut? Have your children join Luca Lashes as he discovers the hair salon for the first time! This is a multilingual (English, French, Italian, Spanish, and coming soon Chinese) educational, audio app that continues the Luca Lashes series about children's "first" experiences.

This entertaining app encourages children to enjoy their first haircut along with Luca Lashes, the Brown-Eyed Boy with the Magic Eyelashes. Children can discover the sights and sounds of a hair salon through interactivity (touch, sight, and sound), and the story includes a list of parent suggestions to help with the inevitable nervous reaction most children go through at their first haircut. The Luca Lashes series is intended for children in the 0-4 year range."

What's good?

* It is engaging and interactive and I love that we can also touch the page on the screen and the page sways according to your direction you sways it!

* I like the storyline where it tells how Luca experienced his first haircut and discover what was it like to cut his hair in a new place.

* The illustration is beautiful and can't help but envy how nice it is to be having a hair cut sitting in cool cars and horses as the chair! I can see my boy nodding his head agreeing how cute and cool it is to see Luca sitting in a car having his hair cut.

Other Things to Note

I understand it is the character's 'power' to gain confidence and be brave by blinking his eyelashes twice but for me, I decided not to stress on this to my boy (compared to other pages, I will normally repeat and explain again to my boy) as I don't want him to be blinking at things. Maybe it's just my weird preferance but other than this, I think this book is a great start if you want to introduce the idea of having their hair cut in a salon to your little ones.
