Teaching & Learning Moment - Mailing Letters

~ Posted on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 5:01 AM ~

I joined this Facebook group where I get to exchange and even get freebies of angpow packets and after Chinese New Year, I decided it is time to mail out all the angpow packets which I had promised to trade and give aways with the members. While I was carrying our 1.5 years old Carolyn on my hipseat, I got our older 2 kiddos to each stand on one side of the letter box.

I passed the envelopes one by one to our kiddos based on whether it is local delivery or other states delivery.

Now why this falls into the 'Teaching & Learning Moments!'?

* Listen to instructions (Me: 'Alyson / Benjamin, slot this envelope in.')

* Execute the instructions (Alyson and Benjamin dutifully tip-toed and slot in the respective envelopes)

* Train their aiming skills to slot in the envelopes correctly into the small little gap.

* Train their patience level, to wait for their respective envelopes instead of fighting over the envelopes to slot in.

* Give older kiddo opportunity to help out younger sibling (struggling to tip-toe after a while LOL) and opportunity for younger kiddo to express gratitude on help being extended to them.

Win-win!

Dinner - Before & After

~ Posted on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at 6:55 AM ~

Last year, I wrote about a look back into my home-cooked journey so far. Then shortly before the end of 2014, I wrote a post on my preparation when cooking. Then I thought, "Why not snap a picture of before start cooking and the final results after cooking?"

So, here you go..

Top part of the picture is the ingredients all ready to be cooked on11th February 2015. From top left (clockwise): 1 tube of Japanese egg tofu (cut into half inch width), a bowl of sweet sauce + water + salt pepper, 2 eggs, 2 jumbo sausages (air-fried earlier and cut into thin slices), minced pork marinated half hour earlier with sweet soy sauce, sugar, Worchestershire sauce and corn flour and about 8-9 cloves of garlic sliced thinly.

My dinner dishes for that day? Click on the dish name to check out my recipe.

  • Stir-fry Japanese egg tofu with carrots.

  • Scrambled eggs with jumbo sausages.

  • Minced Pork with Garlic.

Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese - Here / There

~ Posted on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 7:45 AM ~

Ever since I started kindergarten at 6 years old, I have been attending public schools (main language is Bahasa Malaysia) and during my earlier years, I mixed around with a lot of Malay friends and even spoke Bahasa with my elder brother at home (he also attends public schools), even to this day. So Bahasa Malaysia used to be my main language other than Cantonese and later on English (brushed up more when I met my hubby then boyfriend through snail mails, I had to practise and brush up my English as he doesn't speak Cantonese) Anyway, I think it is fun to be able to practise back and sharing what I know with those of you who are interested.

And so, here goes our next lesson: HERE / THERE

Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese

For those of you who are more often on Facebook, you can also find the tutorials on my Facebook fan page. I have created a "Let's Learn Bahasa & Cantonese!" album to store the phrases. Enjoy learning!
