iPad App Review - The Berenstain Bears' BIG Bedtime Book

~ Posted on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 7:43 AM ~

Wow! I go ga-ga over apps with the word 'collection' or 'big book' in it. When I saw the press release for this app, I immediately requested for it! Another reason why I wanted to review this app is because Jan Berenstain, who with her husband, Stan, wrote and illustrated the Berenstain Bears books that have charmed preschoolers and their parents for 50 years, died few months ago and I think it would be nice to have a collection of the stories kept in my iPad for my children to treasure. Anyway, my review as below...

I have some of the Berenstain Bears' story apps on my iPad such as "The Berenstain Bears Trim the Tree", "The Berenstain Bears’ Bedtime Battle" and "The Berenstain Bears Do Their Best".

What's good?

* It is engaging and interactive and I love that we can also touch the objects in each page on the screen and the words pop out to tell you what it is!

* I like the concept of the stories in this app! I initially thought it will be just the replica of the folklore stories (such as Three Little Pigs) remake into Bears instead of Pigs, but hey, turns out, the stories came with a twist and a very cute lesson to learn from!

* Our personal favorites in this app have got to be the "The Gingerbread Bear" and "The Three Little Cubs and the Big Bad Pig"!

How to Make a Great Resume

~ Posted on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 1:15 AM ~

A resume is very important as it represents yourself when you are trying to secure a job.

Resume must be simple yet professional and stands out from the rest as employers go through a lot of resume when they are in the process of hiring a new employee.

Although I am no longer working, I do still helped out by forwarding my resume template to my ex-colleagues and friends who are looking to change jobs.

Now how to make a resume?

Below are some on my personal tips:

- Write out your personal details so that it's easy to read at a glance. Details such as name, race, age, marital status, some of the common things that an employer or headhunter will look at very quickly.

- Summarised your education background in a few lines. I personally will just list down the year, education place and the grades/certificates attained.

- Summarised your working experience as brief as possible. I normally put in the duration employed, job title and job scopes and what I have achieved and contributed towards the company during my employment period.

- I will personally leave the hobbies and extra-curricular activities out. However, things worth putting into the resume are such as awards you have received in previous or current working place, or accomplishments that might make you stand out from the rest of the candidates.

- Try not to have more than 2 pages for your resume.

- Other details worth taking note of is the font size, standardisation of your font type and grammatical errors.

- If you are sending your resume via email, please make sure you convert your document to PDF format, as the file size will be smaller and your document and contents are protected and not being able to be tampered with easily.

What are your personal tips in making a resume?

Addiction...

~ Posted on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 2:02 PM ~

Hi! My Name is Jenny. I'm a Khapkeks-holics...

I first reviewed this yummylicious cupcakes without the icing early this month. And then the owner made me another batch when she read my review posted and was so happy with my feedback.

Recently, I decided to order a batch from her. I wanted to give some to my hubby's aunt to try as well as she has been giving some paus for Ben lately and I really felt I should return the favor. Hence the order hahahah...

Btw, this time, Su Yi, the owner suggested rum raisins Nutella cupcakes as I asked for half in raisins (got some grumbling from my MIL for the previous batch when I asked for ALL cupcakes to be Nutella choc chips hahahaha.. I am so selfish huh?)

Just want to add how thoughtful Su Yi is to separate out 9 of the cupcakes (6 in rum raisins, 3 in Nutella choc chips) in a smaller box which was meant for my hubby's aunt! I had originally planned to just chuck half of my order (which is 9 pieces) into a container and just pass to my hubby's aunt later but wow, Su Yi is amazing and awesome to separate out for me and put them in a smaller nice looking box! So so thoughtful on my behalf! Kudos to you!

And before I forget, she also added in some extra cupcakes for me as she knows I'll be having less to eat with my decision to give half of my order to my hubby's aunt. So yes, I am getting 7 extra in my box! Awwwwwww... so so so awfully nice of her!

Yes, my mouth waters when I think of the Nutella chocolate chip cupcakes.

Look at my boy's reactions as I hover one of the Nutella choc chip cupcakes near his eye radar as he plays in his water pool...

Guess my addiction is spreading huh?
