~ Posted on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 8:00 AM ~

It was such a nice coincidence that I get to review this storybook app with my kiddos! I was just looking at the movie poster in the cinema the other day and was telling my 4 years old Benjamin there is this new snail racing movie coming out soon and we might get to watch it if daddy is free. Without further ado, here goes my feedback...

* The illustrations is clear and vivid, as for storyline, I'm happy we get to preview this storyapp first before we watched the movie on 20th July 2013! I used the opportunity in this storyapp to teach my boy that we must work hard towards making our dreams come true and not just sit around and become lazy.

* One of the cool thing in this app is there are other options for you to play around such as 'Meet the Crew', 'Racing Team' and 'Turbo Training' apart from being able to customize Turbo’s shell via the Turbo-ize option.

* I'm also impressed that not long after watching this storyapp, my 4 years old boy started drawing snails on his doodling activity time. Not bad!

Toilet Paper Roll Minions from Despicable Me

~ Posted on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 8:12 AM ~

With the recent craze of people queueing up at 12 midnight waiting at McDonald's outlets to get hold of the latest Despicable Me Minion toys from the Happy Meal set, I definitely couldn't be bothered to join in the minion craze. But my 2 kiddos love em' so what has a mum gotta do? Talked about the things I had to do for my children!

I actually ended up making these minions from toilet paper rolls. Tried googling loads of sites for template that I can just download and print out but nope.. no such luck... so I hand draw them myself. To be honest, I have phobia of drawing things as I'm not good in drawing but because I love my kiddos and mummy promised to give them minion toys... sigh...

What you need:

  • 2 piece of A4 colored paper (yellow and blue)

  • Empty toilet paper rolls (I used 3 rolls)

  • Scissors

  • Double-sided tape

  • A black marker pen

What to do:

  1. Cut the yellow colored A4 paper according to the length of a toilet paper roll (enough to cover the entire roll)

  2. Put double sided tape across each corners of the yellow paper cut-out.

  3. Tape the yellow paper cut-out to cover the toilet paper roll.

  4. Cut the blue colored A4 paper about 1/3 of the height of a toilet paper roll to make the overalls jeans for the minion.

  5. Repeat step 2 for the blue colored paper and tape it around the toilet paper roll from the base.

  6. Use your creative hand drawing skills and start drawing the minion face and everything else using the black colored marker pen (I printed a sample of the actual minions faces so I can refer to them when I draw mine)

  7. Repeat the above steps for the next minion(s).

The expressions on my kiddos face... priceless... and worth embarrassing my hand drawing skills...

The end results in close-up shot!

I hope you enjoy reading my tutorial and do give it a try! :)

Fried Tofu with Pepper & Salt

~ Posted on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 8:53 AM ~

It's been quite a long time since I last cooked for dinner since my kind MIL is taking charge of cooking the dishes for dinner all this while. But for this post, I am sharing my next dish, which I got over the Internet as MIL is taking the day off to enjoy herself and I thought time to get my lazy buttocks to do some cooking hahahaha... So here goes my post on Fried Tofu with Pepper & Salt:

Ingredients:

1. 1 block of firm tofu – cut into 1” cubes
2. ½ cup of cornstarch
3. Salt to taste
4. For the salt & pepper dip: 1 tsp of Szechuan pepper (I used black pepper) & 2 tsp salt

Methods:
* Dry the tofu with some paper towel. Sprinkle it with some salt.
* Heat oil in a hot wok until surface seems to shimmer slightly.
* Lightly coat tofu pieces in cornstarch.
* Gently lower the tofu into the hot oil – it is important not to coat the tofu in advance of heating the oil, or it will become very moist and sticky.
* Fry the tofu until they are lightly brown and crispy, remove and drain the oil on paper towel.
* Arrange tofu on a platter and serve immediately with the salt and pepper mixture.

Outcome (AFTER BITING HALF ONE OF THE TOFU):
