How Your $1 Can Save Lives

~ Posted on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 12:01 AM ~

Greetings from Malaysia!

Today I'd like you to join me in partnering with Dionna of Code Name: Mama, BirthSwell and Circle of Health International to improve maternity and newborn care in Haiti. Today I'm asking for your help. The help I'm asking you to give is very simple: you can donate $1.00. One little dollar. What can one dollar buy these days?

  • A couple of postage stamps

  • A bottle of water (maybe)

  • Less than a third of a gallon of gas

  • For Malaysians: The Star newspaper for the weekend

  • For Malaysians: One of those kiddy-rides you pay for your child to enjoy a few minutes of ride

But if every person who subscribes to this blog gives one dollar, you can send an experienced midwife to HCM Maternity Clinic in Fond Parisien, Haiti, an earthquake-affected region. Your dollar can provide education and mentoring for the two Haitian midwives who work at the clinic. Your dollar can improve the maternity care for the 2,000 women seen at that clinic every year. Your dollar can improve outcomes for mothers and babies. Your dollar can save lives.

To read more about how your donations can help, please visit the full post at Code Name: Mama. I am helping Dionna of Code Name: Mama raise donations to Get Karen to Haiti. Click on the picture below to donate - please give at least $1 today!

Please visit the Get Karen to Haiti page to donate your dollar today!

** P.S: Just in case you're wondering, I donated too and although I'm from Malaysia, I don't think which country we are located at, matters or differs. If you are a mother, you will understand and appreciate good maternity care and want the best for your child. I'm a full-time mummy

Tealicious?

~ Posted on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 8:50 AM ~

Tried this yummylicious iced drink the other day while we were out for grocery shopping!

Tealicious Mango Yogurt QQ
I ordered the Mango Yogurt QQ (don't ask me the QQ stands for what...!)

There are lots of other shops that makes bubble tea drinks like this, I think including this one, I've only tried 3 of such shops. The other was ChaTime Bubble Tea which I do not like at all. This drink is much much better, I enjoyed the bubble tea jelly and the jelly strips that came along with the drink.

Delicious? Nope... it's tealicious!

Product Review - PreK Scholars

~ Posted on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 1:30 PM ~

I have always been on the search for materials to use to educate Ben, or at least, expose him to more learning materials. So when I came across this review opportunity, I decided to try it out. So here goes my review for the "PreK Scholars":

PreK Scholars

Description from the product page:
"The Pre K Scholars preschool curriculum is being used in a variety of different preschools as core curriculum and as an enrichment program where it provides an additional revenue source. The lessons are fun, creative and easily adapted to a variety of thematic units because the Scholarville characters represent a broad spectrum of occupations and situations.

Licensed for single classroom use, the Pre K Scholars Preschool Curriculum is suitable for:
* Montessori preschools
* High/Scope approach
* Bank Street approach
* Home-based approach
* Play-based preschools
* Head Start
* Church-based preschools
* Remedial kindergarten programs

I received the DVD version and the app for my review.

What's Good?

PreK Scholars
From the DVD

* The syllabus is free and easy as it is broken into 22 weekly lessons and you are not pressed to complete it as fast as you can. In fact, I am surprised that the alphabet starts with P instead of A!

PreK Scholars
From the iPad app

* There are a lot of learning materials: guessing game, printable activities, videos and so on. Ben was attracted to the tracing game (you learned to write the alphabet by following the green star to red star) and also the matching game.

* I definitely will go for the iPad app as I can bring it along wherever we go. Learning on the go, awesome!

Room for Improvement?

* I will definitely prefer better illustrations as I feel the current illustrations are not sharp and enticing enough.

* As for the tracing game on the iPad app, I sometimes realised that the touch sensitivity is not strong enough, my boy and I had to trace slowly and there are several occasions when the app is not able to detect the area we trace through.
