Is It The End of The World Yet?

~ Posted on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 7:34 AM ~

Wow, I can just imagine myself hearing children asking their parents 'Are we there yet?' every few seconds but instead, I hear 'Is it the end of the world yet?' Kidding, kidding...

Oh well... as a Christian, I believe when it's time, it's time. No false prophets. No predictions. No warnings.

Logically thinking, if the Earth is really going to be hit by a giant ball of fire or asteroid or planets aligning or whatever the rumors being thrown around now, we would be able to see it in space long before it is 21st December 2012.

In any case, I'm just going to spend and cherish my time with my children and my family. Hug my kids a little more, a little tighter, smell them, kiss them all over, tickle them, just plain being silly with them and enjoy each and every moment. You never know when will be your last day on earth...

iPad App Review - Alphabet Plus

~ Posted on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 8:47 AM ~

In the middle of Sept this year, I have started teaching my 3.5 years old boy unofficially. Unofficially in the sense that we do not follow any curriculum or schedule. I have tried introducing alphabets to my boy but our progress is still at a very slow pace, he can sings right from A to Z but somehow he is still slow in recognising the alphabets. At the moment, the only alphabet he can recognise is the letter C (which he says as 'kah-kah' in phonics). Hence this review is based on my sole opinion as I did not involve my boy's participation in this app. Without further ado, here goes my feedback...

"Alphabet Plus combines four games into one which provides everything your child needs to learn the alphabet, phonics and the sound and first words associated with each letter. This app includes the "Alphabet Song", a coloring book with a page for each letter, activities for learning the letters in sequence, and fun animated games to teach pronunciation and letter recognition. Your child can click on each animated letter and pictures and objects will pop up on the screen with the sound of the first letter and sound out the words. Learning to associate each letter with the phonics sound is an important first step for kids to learn to read. The entertaining and enjoyable format will keep children focused as they learn."

* There are 6 different games in this app: Coloring, ABC song, Matching, Ordering, Words and Tapping.

* I don't quite like some of the games in terms of its layout and design. For example I am not a black or dark color background person as I find it hard to focus and it's contrast is quite glaring.

* The ordering game is one that I enjoy and think my boy will appreciate once he started recognising the letters.

In summary, this app is OK and I think it can be greatly improved in terms of the designing and layout aspects - to make it more interesting with easy to see coloring scheme.

2012 Christmas Gifts

~ Posted on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 7:44 AM ~

I have previously blogged about our yummy Christmas gifts to hubby's business clients which showcased gifts we DIY and baked and customised since 2008 to 2010. Last year we made this awesome Christmas ribbon trees and honestly I thought that was the pinnacle of the Christmas gift ideas... because I was really stuck trying to think what to make for this year's Christmas gifts.

Except for last year's Christmas ribbon trees which I got the idea from the Internet and modified myself, the rest of the gifts ideas are pretty much from hubby's idea. So this year I had some idea on making this cute little house with bars of chocolates and yummy treats and stuff but other than that my mind was blank.

At the last minute, hubby (who was already super busy since late November) had to help in and cracked his brain. And the results are here! Ta-daaaa..!!

* Pictures shown below are just some of the gifts as I didn't managed to snap all the gifts in one shot whooopsss....

What do you think?
