iPad App Review - The Chalk Box Story

~ Posted on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 2:35 PM ~

My 3.5 years old boy has no problems identifying colors and he does coloring with chalks in our balcony sometimes but my purpose to review this app is more to see what is the story about and test whether my boy can follow the instructions in the app when it comes to using what colors to color the respective objects. Anyway, my review as below...

The Chalk Box Story

* Title: The Chalk Box Story
* Price: $3.99
* Category: Education
* Released: Nov 29, 2012
* Version: 1.0.0
* Size: 70.4 MB
* Language: English

Description from the product page:

"Eight very special sticks of colored chalk transform blank sheets of paper into exciting stories that become quite real. Pieces of colored chalk draw a story about a boy stranded on an island and the turtle who rescues him. This app helps children learn colors and also the spirit of team work. The process of knowing this through The Chalk Box Story is beautifully illustrated and written by Don Freeman. "

* It is engaging and interactive and I love that we can also move the chalks and color the pages on the screen as we go through the story!

* Initially I thought we have to color according to the story line before we could move through the pages, so I am happy to note that we can skip forward or return back to the colors on respective pages (more like free play) instead of being forced to go through each pages.

The Chalk Box Story

* I was not a fan of watercolored illustrations before this but I think my perception has changed after trying out this app. The drawings on each page is simply breathtakingly beautiful and cute!

* The storyline is simple and easy to follow, I'm so thankful for the happy ending where the main character gets rescued and able to leave the island he got stranded on.

The Chalk Box Story

* There is a bonus feature in this app which you can drag and drop the objects accordingly. The nice thing is if the object is not appropriate to be placed where you want them to, you will see a red mark on the object. For example, you can't put the dolphin on the island or crab in the ocean.

The Chalk Box Story

* I do however feel the price $3.99 is a bit high for this app though but I realised that the apps I am reviewing lately is around this price range.

I have been grooving into Christmas mood since November and it is such a perk to be a blogger as I get to review Christmas products earlier hahahaa... anyway, my review as below:

DVD synopsis:

 "The cute and family-friendly box set contains four of the most beloved holiday TV specials of all time, including the Rankin/Bass classics “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” and “Frosty Returns.” Watching these iconic TV specials are part of the American holiday tradition, just like baking cookies or trimming the Christmas tree!  The holiday season just wouldn’t be the same without them… "

This is a wonderful collections of Christmas classics which will definitely put you into Christmas mood! We love the 'Frosty the Snowman', 'Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer' and 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town'! Watching and listening to these songs and seeing my 2 kiddos dancing along to it just melts my heart!

I didn't grew up listening to Christmas songs until I started working as a sales promoter during my highschool holidays so listening back to classics songs like this surely brings back memories of those good ol' time. I do wish to see my kiddos enjoying to these songs as well!

In summary, this DVD set will definitely be played over and over again in our house!

Product Review - VeggieTales: The Ultimate Christmas Collection

~ Posted on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 7:35 AM ~

This is my 5th VeggieTales DVD review after "Little Ones Can Do Big Things Too!", "The Penniless Princess - God’s Little Girl", "God Loves You Very Much" and "If I Sang a Silly Song". We are a big fan of VeggieTales after the first few DVDs (and I also bought another DVD from our church bookstore as well, so yeah, we are a fan!) Anyway, here is my review:

I'm a full-time mummy

DVD synopsis:

"This set contains VeggieTales’ entire Christmas collection. Now your family can enjoy classic holiday shows The Toy That Saved Christmas—a lesson in giving; The Star of Christmas—a lesson in how to love; Saint Nicholas—a story in joyful giving; It's a Meaningful Life—a lesson in being content; and The Little Drummer Boy—a story about hope, love and forgiveness. Also included in the collection is the VeggieTales: Christmas Sing-along Songs DVD and 25 Favorite Christmas Songs! CD."

What an awesome collection of Christmas songs and tales! We totally love it! What more can you ask for?! When I first started playing this DVD on my laptop, my 2 kiddos are still playing around, running around in the playroom, and then the first song came on and they both sat right in front of my latop, glued to the screen, not moving. Wow, mesmerising sight! The songs in the DVD are catchy and cute as well and yes, we danced along to it too!

In summary, I like the lessons to be learned, to be happy with what you have, to love one another and also forgiveness. I have been instilling and reminding my 3.5 years old boy on the importance of forgiving and teaching him how to forgive and move on and not hold any grudge or be angry at the past. This is one DVD collection that you must have!!
