Product Review - Dang Foods Onion Chips

~ Posted on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 3:32 PM ~

I have been cutting down on doing product reviews since 2014 and what more with baby #4 on the way this end of year, all the more I need to be particularly picky and selective with the products that I'm reviewing. Not that I'm trying to be hard sell, no, definitely not! But with 3 kiddos + 1 on the way, being a housewife at home with kiddos all the time and helping out with hubby's business, I just feel it is not fair to make companies and PR reps wait for my reviews while I slowly review and look for time to spare to draft out my feedback you know? But of course, like I said, I have to be selective, so products that we can definitely fit into our family dynamics (especially books on parenting or homeschooling stuff, family products, something along those genre) will be accepted! Today's review is on Dang Foods Onion Chips. Read on....

Dang Foods Onion Chips

About the company & products:

"Our founder, Vincent, launched Dang Coconut Chips in 2012 after his mother gave him a recipe for Miang Kum, a Northern Thai lettuce wrap that requires toasted coconut. At the time, he was working as a sustainability researcher and moonlighting as a street vendor for the SF Underground Farmer’s Market. Vincent made the dish, tasted the toasted coconut, and then immediately called his family in Thailand to find more because it tasted so good. With that, a new company was born. Vincent decided to name it Dang after his mother since it was her recipe that started it all.

Our onion chips are made from whole onions - never corn meal - so go ahead and enjoy our crispy delicious caramelized onions knowing that you're eating nature's original superfood. Onions have been enjoyed for millennia and can decrease the risk of certain cancers as well as reduce inflammation and lower the risk of asthma. Real, simple goodness to add to your daily snack routine or your favorite recipes."

I received the following products for my review.

Dang Foods Onion Chips

The Dang Foods Onion Chips comes in the following flavors:

- Applewood BBQ

- Chipotle Garlic

- Salt -n- Pepper

- Sea Salt

The first thing I take note when it comes to reviewing food products is of course the safety of the products. Each Dang Foods Onion Chips pack comes in a resealable bag making it easy to close, seal and continue to enjoy the freshness of the chips the next time you plan to continue snacking hahaha...

Dang Foods Onion Chips

I carefully cut off the top portion of the first pack I decided to try, which is the Dang Foods Onion Chips in Sea Salt flavor. I took a peek inside and snapped this picture below. Most of the chips are still perfect in size, there are bit of crumbs or crunched up pieces (which is likely due to shipping from US over to where I am in Malaysia) I immediately got a whiff of onions!

Dang Foods Onion Chips

I took out a piece of the onion chips and tried to take a small bite. Crispy, cruncy and fresh definitely. Then I realised the whole chip is a slice of crispy caramelized sliced onions! I actually thought this is some kind of potato chips with onion flavors but nooooooo, these chips are all onion slices! And even though it is sea-salt, it doesn't taste salty at all. Good!

Now I am not a person who enjoys onions on its own so the most I can take in a seating for this Dang Food Onion Chips are 4 pieces, that's the max. Then the onion smells and taste gets too overwhelming for my tastebuds.

I gave a packet of each flavors to my brother-in law to try and he said he likes the Applewood BBQ flavor the most but like me, he too agree that after about 5-6 pieces of the chips, it gets too overwhelming for him (and he is a really health conscious person!)

Dang Foods Onion Chips

You can read more info about the chips from the website link below, but some keypoints you need to take note are these chips are non-GMO project verified, vegan (except the Applewood BBQ flavor which contains honey granules), as onions are the ingredients, they are a good source of fibre, and gluten-free.

So I guess for my review based on my personal preference, if taken in small quantity it is enjoyable, a healthy snack option but the onion taste really gets stronger the more you eat, so if you can tolerate that, all is good!

In summary, a healthy snack option which you can either enjoy just by itself,

or as a side dish or as a topping for salads, soups and sandwiches !

Product Review - Delfi Chocolate Spread

~ Posted on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 5:19 AM ~

When I received an email asking whether I would be interested to review a range of chocolate spread products carried by Delfi. After browsing through their website and seeing the potential on how I can incorporate the food products into our family, I decided to go ahead with the review.

About the products:

"Delfi Chocolate spread comes in a variety of flavors and are made from the finest ingredients. It serves as a delicious, quick and easy yet nutritious breakfast option.

Other than the chocolate spread, there are also the ChaCha chocolate shells (comes in milk chocolate or with peanut also there is mini sizes that is very cute and quick treats for the kiddos) that you can consider as well!"

I received the following products for our review:

The first item that I reviewed is the ChaCha milk chocolate candy shell in mini sizes! So darn cute and comes in convenient bottle tubes that is easy to open and close. Quick treats on the go for the kiddos! It finishes up very fast though since I've got 3 kiddos and I tried to ration out the candies by only giving them when they have done certain chores or finished up their homework.

The next item that I reviewed is the ChaCha milk chocolate candy shell and ChaCha Peanut candy shell. The milk chocolate candies are not too sweet, is just like the mini ones but of course, bigger in sizes and there are various colors as well. The Peanut version is the same except the filling is peanut (no skins) and I gave a few packets to our accountants to try and they said it was good, not too sweet and definitely much cheaper than the other brands around in the market.

The last few items that I reviewed are of course the chocolate spread. I was given 4 flavors to try out: Choco Hazelnut and Milk Spread, Rich Choco Spread, Double Hazelnut Spread and Choco Hazelnut Spread.

The first thing I take note when it comes to reviewing food products is of course the safety of the products. Each chocolate spread glass bottle comes sealed tightly in a gold foil layer that you can peel off with ease. The moment I peeled off the first bottle, rich chocolate-y and nutty smell fills the air... mmmm....

I proceeded to try out each chocolate spread. The Choco Hazelnut and Milk Spread in my personal opinion is a bit too sweet for my liking but I like the milky taste. The Double Hazelnut Spread did not disappoint as it has a rich hazelnut taste, yumsss.

The hazelnut is much milder in the Choco Hazelnut Spread bottle but it has a richer taste in chocolate though. I personally like this flavor and has been shamelessly treating myself to a spoonful or two every now and then.

Lastly, the Rich Choco Spread as the name goes, taste a bit bitter for the chocolate and stronger compared to the rest of the flavors.

Overall, each has its own distinct strengths and plus points so I guess it is up to the individual's preference on taste and flavors.

In summary, yummylicious and value for money range of products that you can consider for your family!

Mighty Utan Petaling Jaya

~ Posted on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 12:28 AM ~

I have been cutting down on doing product reviews ever since our 3rd kiddo came along in end of Sept 2013 and especially now with 4th kiddo due in mid of November 2016. I do still accept review pitches but only when time permits and if it is something that I can see it being useful and beneficial to our family. Also, as busy as I am with 3 kiddos, being preggy, home cooking, taking care of hubby's administration site of the business and swamped up with managing my FB page and blog, I just can't say no to reviewing awesome Lego stuff! Our kiddos (and hubby) are fans of Lego so all the more I gotta say yes!

Extreme Colouring- Amazing World

We arrived at the Petaling Jaya outlet at 11.30am after having a light breakfast nearby as we were informed opening hours on Saturday is 11am to 7pm.It was easy for us to locate the stores (using Waze) and there is proper signage that directs us to the correct tower and floors. When we reached the front of the store, the first thing we see is the toilet with the cute signage. Toilet is unisex, clean and bright just in case you are wondering.

Mighty Utan

Next, as we stepped into the stores, we were bombarded with the sights of TONS of Lego products.

E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E!!!!

You see them on your left,

Mighty Utan

you see them on your right,

Mighty Utan

You see many more far ahead,

Mighty Utan

Mighty Utan

Then there's a couple of big tables with lots of Lego bricks and some customers were holding a plastic container to store their bricks. Our kiddos ran off to the nearest table and started scouting for Lego bricks to build stuff. I went to check with the staff and explained the reason we were at the outlet.

Mighty Utan

Upon explanation by the friendly staff in the store, I found out that they have this concept of 'Pick-a-Brick' where you can choose whatever bricks you wanted from the 2 tables and buy them according to their weights. You can choose to pick loose bricks or build your own Lego creations and buy it after weighing them.

I relayed the information to my hubby and he got down to explaining to our kiddos to look for different type of Lego bricks that they don't see at our home and instructed them to put the bricks they like into the plastic containers he is holding. Of course, with kids being kids, everything looks new and special to them, so all sorts of Lego bricks went into the container LOL!! Hubby had to do a few round of filtering to remove those bricks that we do not want.

There are different boxes underneath the tables if you are looking for specific boats, wheels, or parts like those spaceship capsules or covers etc. You really need lots of time and patience to look through and get what you really want.

Mighty Utan

There are also some pre-packed Lego bricks in plastic pouches that clearly states the weight of the bricks (if you are lazy to choose and wants specific theme of bricks)

Mighty Utan

I managed to score an awesome find from one of these pre-packed plastic pouches. I saw some MegaBlock Halo soldier figurines inside and immediately grabbed it and showed it to our 7-year-old-boy. He goes crazy with soldiers looking stuff and when he noticed the plastic pouch contains Halo soldiers, he hangs onto the bag real tight. Some of the figurines are not complete (missing hands or legs or heads) but 80% of it are complete, nobody's complaining!! I am so very happy with this find!

Mighty Utan

If you are a beginner in Lego stuff and looking to get a starter set for your kiddos or as a gift, I would recommend you to read my "Tips on Buying Lego For Your Child" blog post first then to skip the 'Pick-a-Brick' section and opt straight for those ready sets.

I do notice there are some sets in the stores which I do not see anywhere else, even if other places sell it, they sure do not have so much variety as found in the Mighty Utan Petaling Jaya outlet. Many different sets of the Lego Education theme can be found here, as well as those Lego Technics sets.

Mighty Utan

Mighty Utan

There are some rare or old sets as well but some of them are not complete. I almost wanted to get the LEGO SpongeBob Heroic Heroes of the Deep 3815 but had to consoled myself after being told that the figurines are missing and they are selling the set without the figurines. Sigh....

Mighty Utan

We were given a complimentary voucher to exchange for Lego bricks from 'Pick-a-Brick' section so our final loots after almost 2 hours of digging, filtering and finalizing... we just need to pay extra RM2.50 for the additional weight from our loot.

Mighty Utan

Overall, we have a very enjoyable visit at the Mighty Utan Petaling Jaya outlet.

Friendly staff, lots of brands and options available, surely there will be something for everyone.

Do check out the stores!!!
