~ Posted on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 5:55 PM ~

This is the first book I requested under the Blogging for Books program with WalterBrook Multnomah Publishing and below is my review for the "Enemies of the Heart" book by Andy Stanley:

Title: Enemies of the Heart: Breaking Free from the Four Emotions That Control You
Author: Andy Stanley

Publisher:  Multnomah Books; Reprint edition (June 21, 2011)
ISBN-13/-10: 978-1601421456 / 1601421451
Paperback: 224 pages
Dimension: 7.9 x 5.2 x 0.7 inches

Description from the product page:
"Are you afraid to look inside? Break free from the destructive power of guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy.

Divorce. Job loss. Estrangement from family members. Broken friendships. The difficult circumstances you are dealing with today are likely being fed by one of four emotional forces that compels you to act in undesirable ways, sometimes even against your will.

Andy Stanley explores each of these destructive forces-guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy-and how they infiltrate your life and damage your relationships. He says that, left unchallenged they have the power to destroy your home, your career, and your friendships.

In Enemies of the Heart, Andy offers practical, biblical direction to help you fight back, to take charge of those feelings that mysteriously control you, and to restore your broken relationships. Includes a six-week discussion guide-a valuable resource for small groups!

* Previously released as "It Came from Within""

I was immediately attracted to this book when I read the following:

 Guilt = I owe you
Anger = You owe me
Greed = I owe me
Jealousy = God owes me

Wow.... that just strikes it! I mean, just pause for a moment and think through each of the negative habits above and reflect on it.

I also enjoyed reading the chapters related to forgiveness. The author asked us to confront what makes us angry and to forgive the person and restate the decision that he or she does not owe us anything anymore. He further reminded us that you don't forgive because the other person deserves it, you forgive because you've been forgiven by our Father above. As I read through this chapter, I was reminded of a few personal experiences (which honestly, I have really really forgiven the person and move on) I like the sentence from page 104 where it says "Blaming won't make us better. Holding out for an apology won't either. The cure is forgiveness."

I also enjoyed reading the habits listed to change the enemies of the heart which is to: confess, forgive, give and celebrate.

I would highly recommend you to get this book, heck, buy more as a gift to your loved ones and friends!

You can get this book from WalterBrook Multnomah website, Amazon and many more.

Book Review - Heaven is for Real for Kids (Todd and Sonja Burpo)

~ Posted on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 9:07 AM ~

The first time I came across this book was (months ago) when I saw it being mentioned in one of Book Sneeze newsletter that it will be made available for review request and by the time I login to the website, it's no longer available for review as the number of copies available were all taken up. I felt disappointed not being able to review this book as I'm really interested to find out what this little boy had to say about his experience in heaven.

So when I found out that there is the softcopy version available for review on netGalley, I immediately requested to review it even though this is for the kids version. Below is my review for the "Heaven is for Real for Kids: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back" book:

Title: Heaven is for Real for Kids: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back
Author: Todd and Sonja Burpo

Publisher:  Thomas Nelson (November 8, 2011)
ISBN-13/-10: 978-1400318704 / 140031870X
Paperback: 32 pages
Dimension: 9.10 x 9.10 x 0.30 inches

Description from the product page:
"Heaven is for real, and you are going to like it! Colton Burpo came back from his trip to heaven with a very important message: Jesus really, really loves children. In an effort to reach even more families with this eternally significant story, this runaway bestseller is now told from Colton—kid to kids! Children will receive the same comfort and assurance that so many adults have received from the trade book.

Beautifully illustrated under Colton's direction, he shares his experiences in first person and comments on things that will be important to kids. A letter to parents is included to guide them as they talk to their children about heaven. Scripture along with a Q&A section with answers from the Bible are also included in the book. "

This book is just 32 pages and is easy for me to read through in a few minutes. I love the beautiful illustrations in this book!

I always believed that children are innocent and whatever they say are true and honest and without lies or make beliefs. So, to be able to read Colton's first account of what he experienced when he was in heaven was just amazing. I do feel envy that he gets to experience all this but I'm truly happy that what he experienced and relate back in this book is confirmation of what was written in the bible.

I hope to be able to share this book with my kids when they are old enough to understand about heaven and all.

You can get this book from Thomas Nelson website, Amazon and many more.

Book Review - It's Not About Me (Max Lucado)

~ Posted on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 12:16 AM ~

  As always, Lucado has always been one of my favorite authors and below is my review for his "It's Not About Me" book:

Title: It's Not About Me
Author: Max Lucado

Publisher:  Thomas Nelson; Reprint edition (May 3, 2011)
ISBN-13/-10: 978-0849947094 / 084994709X
Paperback: 176 pages
Dimension: 5.80 x 8.50 x 0.90 inches

Description from the product page:
" Pop culture and psychobabble tell us to make ourselves the center of the universe in order to be happy. Churches have communicated the false idea that God exists to give us all that we selfishly want. In this book, Max Lucado reminds us that it's not about us, it's all about God. It is through this shift in thinking that we can truly live an unburdened, happy life."

I like that this book enlightened and reminded me that I am not the center of the universe and the world does not revolve around me. In page 15 of the ebook, I am greatly humbled by the statement "God does not exist to make a big deal out of us. We exist to make a big deal out of Him. It's not about you. It's not about me. It's all about Him." Such a great reminder!

I personally learned a lot from this book and am greatly humbled and I am glad to be able to review this book! Now, do get a copy of this book for yourself too!!

You can get this book from Thomas Nelson website, Amazon and many more.
