Teaching & Learning Moment - Helping Out In The Kitchen

~ Posted on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 6:55 AM ~

Our youngest kiddo (she's 1.5 years old btw) loves to follow me around. I can barely have a few seconds peace before she comes looking for me. One morning while I was preparing the ingredients to make soup for the day's dinner, as usual, Carolyn came along and refuses to let me do my work in peace.

So I thought of just giving her some small little tasks for her to help me out rather than she walks around, clinging onto my legs or crying and whining for me to take her away. I got a chair and let her stand next to me on the chair. I was chopping and slicing some vegetables so what I did was I put the sliced ingredients into a small bowl which she can access to easily.

Then I guided her to take the sliced vegetables and put them into my slow cooker. With every sliced vegetables she put in, I cheered her on and complimented her for being a good helper! She was so happy to be praised and she kept saying 'amor!' (means 'somemore') so fast that I had trouble keeping up with her!

Teaching & Learning Moment

Now why this falls into the 'Teaching & Learning Moments!'?

* I get to teach our girl to help out with some housechores.

* I get to teach our girl to practise her motor skills and dexterity - to pick up the sliced vegetable and dropped them into the slow cooker.

* I don't need to hear her whine and cry while I'm doing my work.

* I get to boost her sense of accomplishments for being mummy's little helper!

Win-win!

Sharing - 9th Graders' Anonymous Sex Ed Questions

~ Posted on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 5:41 AM ~

A few years ago, I wrote a post about "Willy and Down Part OR Penis and Vagina?" where I touched on the importance of teaching our children the correct and right naming for their body parts (better still, to talk and teach them yourself rather than leaving this task for others to do). Some commentators were saying that my then 4 years old boy is too young to be knowing this and being taught about this. To be honest, I was shocked to read comments like these... thank God for the many commentators who supported and agreed on this approach.

Now fast forward 2 years on from that post, I just want to share an article that I came across with. It was shared by a teacher who asked her/his 9th grade students to anonymously submit sex questions. The teacher shared some of the questions posed throughout 3 years.

For your convenience, I have copied some of the excerpts from the article here:

I think it is good for the teacher to do this to test the knowledge level of her/his students. Doing this anonymously will remove the shyness in some students in approaching topics like this and yet still allow the teacher and/or parents to be aware and do something proactive in educating their students/children about it.

On another hand, it's quite worrisome to read some of the questions raised, maybe it's just me but there are some questions which I myself after reading it, am still wondering what it meant and how do they know such things? Well, it just goes to show that children no matter what age they are of, can easily come across information like this and it is only right that we as the parents especially, to be concerned and make sure our children is getting the correct information and knowing the right and wrong choices to make.

Do share your thoughts on this!

Princess

~ Posted on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 6:25 AM ~

My eldest sis-in law loves our 2nd kiddo. She calls her princess Alyson. The other day my SIL Whatsapp-ed me this joke and assured us that it is perfectly fine for her little princess Alyson to stay princessy for a little while longer LOL

So I sent her this funny picture below, along with a few shots of our princess girl in various face gestures and sloppiness LOL

But she is still undeterred and vowed to forever be clapping her hands for our princess girl LOL, so I sent her this joke as well...

And of course, must not forget actual shots of our princess girl LOL

Hahahaha... glad to be able to entertain my SIL hahahaha...
