Sharing - The Dangers Of Social Media (Child Predator Social Experiment)

~ Posted on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 12:07 AM ~

One of my FB page followers sent me this article which I must definitely share with you guys as I truly wanted everyone, parents especially to take note and do something about this.

Now parents before you view the video, no matter how you think you have talked, discussed, asked, listened, drilled etc your children about stranger danger, please please please monitor their activities, check up on them every now and then as often as you can, be there for them, be the one your child can go to and talk to with ease, spend more time with them. Don't be too confident that your child won't fall into such traps. Just very scary to watch the video and see how easily the girls trust strangers they have never seen face to face.

For your convenience, I have copied some of the excerpts from the article here:

"In this video, YouTuber, Coby Persin, creates a social experiment to show just how dangerous it can be to "friend" a stranger online. With the permission of three teenage girl's parents, he sends the girls a friend request posing as a 15 year old boy who just moved to their town. Not only do these girls accept his request and chat with him, but they also agree to meet up with a complete stranger. The girls parents were shocked to see that their daughters would give out their address and meet up with a stranger -- they didn't believe it was possible! This is something that everyone needs to see. You never know who that 15 year old boy might really be!"

To view the video, just click on the screenshot image below, it will play the video on YouTube in a new window screen.

Macanese Minchi

~ Posted on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 7:23 AM ~

Was browsing through my My Attempts in Making Yummylicious Food! album on my FB page and I saw this dish I made in December 2014.

That time, I still have a small packet of minced pork in my fridge and I bought a big pack of potatoes yesterday (reduced to clear bargain must grab LOL!). So I googled around looking for recipes that uses minced pork and potatoes.

Ta-daaaaa.... and I got Macanese Minchi!

Apparently, this dish is a traditional dish in Macau which is made with minced beef and/or minced pork, potatoes and onions.

Cool, learned something new! I get to merge our kiddos' favorite dish (minced pork in sweet soy sauce and garlic) with MY favorite dish (braised potatoes in sweet soy sauce)

Teaching & Learning Moment - Flowers

~ Posted on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 5:39 AM ~

I like to bring our kiddos to the playground whenever situations and weather permits. One morning after dropping off our oldest kiddo at kindy, I brought our girls to the playground. Our girls left me and happily moved onto the slides so I sat in one of the swings when I noticed something on the floor. A white flower! Ahhh... thank you God for this learning opportunity!

I immediately called our girls over and gently pointed to them the flower, telling them to be careful as they looks very fragile. It's not easy picking these flowers up as well. Now, I thought what can we learn from this lovely thing?

#1 - I taught our girls to pronounce the word 'flower' properly. Fuh-lao-were. Flower.

#2 - I taught our girls to identify the petals and to pronounce the word 'petal' properly. Peh-turl. Petal.

I looked around the playground and noticed quite a lot of these flowers on the ground. Possibly fell after the earlier rain in the morning. So I told our girls to gently pick up the flowers and bring them to me. As they picked up the flowers, they get to practise their finger motor skills and learning to be gentle and careful at the same time so as not to destroy the flowers.

Our older girl has started to arrange the flower and counting it as she aligned them properly, possibly remembering one of our previous teaching & learning moment where we learn to count with flowers. This time, I told our older girl to arrange into a shape. I asked 'How about circle shape?' and so she started adjusting and realigning the flowers to make a circle shape. Awesome!

Teaching & Learning Moment

Win-win!
