Website Review - Workingmums.co.uk

~ Posted on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 5:20 PM ~

I recently had the opportunity to review this wonderful website which offers much more than job opportunities. I have to confess from time to time, I do check out websites like this, trying to find out whether there are any ways I can earn some side income while still remain as a SAHM to my 2 cheeky kids. So here goes my review for the website:

Description from the product page:

"We work with hundreds of employers - from large corporate firms to small businesses, and have a large database of professional women seeking work in a wide variety of fields. Candidates register for free and can file their CVs, whilst employers pay a small fee to post their job on the site and contact candidates who match their requirements. There are also fantastic opportunities for employers to promote their brand, and their flexible working policies.

Workingmums.co.uk also offers much more than job opportunities. Mums can also search for small business and self-employed opportunities in our Business-Zone and Franchise-Zone, where franchisors can seek to expand their brand by reaching thousands of potential franchisees. We also offer advice, news and working mums' blogs, in order to share news, views, experiences and information with working mums everywhere."

I think this website is awesome as it connects women (such as us mums!) with opportunities to earn side income either by self-employed or small business opportunities or franchising options.

Not only that, this website is packed with tips and advice, and there are avenues to share news, opinions, experiences and information with working mums as well! Why don't I see this type of websites in Malaysia?!

As for the layout and navigation aspect of this website, I'll have to say I am satisfied with them and find it easy to navigate around and finding information I wanted. For example, to satisfy my curiosity, I tried searching for available jobs (to see what are the cool jobs being offered in the UK market) and I am happy to see the jobs offered being filtered by the working pattern (whether full or part time), contract type (such as permanent, temporary, etc), location, sectors and many more.

One thing I would recommend is for the company to include job opportunities to people from overseas (like me!) as well. For example job which only requires online presence such as filling up surveys, data entry etc will definitely attract more job seekers (like me!) and bring a win-win situation to all parties.

Mastering Her Finger Skills...

~ Posted on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 7:24 AM ~

My 10 months old has been perfecting her finger skills! Ever since I get to review the Happy Baby Organic Puffs Sweet Potato with her, I noticed her finger skills improved tremendously!

Somehow I can't recall at what month Benjamin started being good at picking food and self-feeding himself but it is nice seeing Alyson happily picking along the food and stuffing it carefully into her tiny mouth!

Self-feeding

Also want to share a little observation we made on our 10 months old girl. She can actually shakes her head, shrugging herself away when she's done with her food, drinks or medicine. I started noticing this as few days ago, she had fever and I had to give her medicine every 4 hours and you can actually see her shaking her head while looking away not wanting to have anything to do with the medicine anymore! But if you pass her other things like her favorite puffs, she will happily open mouth to eat it!

Again, can't recall my boy doing this! Sigh... I've got memory problems, so better blog this down while I remembers all this milestones of my children!

Product Review - Scotch™ Kids Scissors

~ Posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 7:47 AM ~

I came across this tweet message looking for Malay bloggers to review kitchen tool products and as a Malaysian, this is one step easier to pitch for products to review since Malay means most likely the PR or sponsor is in Malaysia! Anyway, I replied the Tweet asking whether they are OK with Chinese bloggers as well, and to my surprise, I received a reply saying mummy bloggers all welcome and we continued our communication via emails and the rest is history!

I received 2 pairs of scissors for my review: one for kitchen use, and the other for children's use, which is absolutely perfect as I've been training my 3 years old boy to use scissors for our learning activities. So here goes my first review of the "Scotch™ Kids Scissors":

Description from the product page:
"Does your child love paper crafts but you are afraid to let them use a pair of sharp scissors? The solution is now at hand, thanks to the latest cutting-edge technology from Scotch™, the world-renowned manufacturer of top quality office and household tools and supplies. We’ve have something perfect for little hands that are just learning to handle scissors. So no more worries about the kids injuring themselves with scissors or struggling with uncomfortable scissors more suited for larger adult hands.

Scotch™ Kids Scissors are ideal for children, with soft grip handles for comfortable and easy handling by both right and left-handed children, and a blunt tip on the 5-inch blade for extra safety. Available in turquoise and magenta, the scissors have a 5-year warranty and are sold at a recommended price of RM5.90 at leading department stores, hypermarkets, home improvement stores and book stores."

Seriously people, this is a top-notch quality product from a well known brand! Of course we love it! Now before I continue singing praises for this awesome product, I just want to share with you guys a brief history of us using kids scissors.

You see the pictures below? Yep, the puny little white colored flimsy mini scissors is what I got Ben to use during our craft activities. Well, I thought it being small might be better suited for my 3 years old and I have so far got Ben to practise his cutting skills twice only as he is still practising his grips on the scisscors handle and flexing his fingers to move the scisscors blade.

Now with Scotch™ Kids Scissors, I immediately noticed my 3 years old excitement as he grasps the scissors confidently. Yes people, I know it is written on the packaging that the scissors is recommended for kids age 4 and above, and yes, I know my boy is 3 years old (40 months+) but rest assured, I am careful to only allow him to use this scissors under my strict supervision.

Anyway, back to my feedback: with the much bigger and heavier scissors now (compared to his puny little white colored scissors last time), Ben is actually cutting papers properly! I'm amazed at what I see! I couldn't find enough paper on time and had to let him cut on the packaging for the scissors!

I could understand why Ben is able to use this scissors with so much ease! The scissors came with soft touch handle, easy for small hands' grips and you don't have to freak out with any accidents as the scissors has blunt tip and yes, I actually lined up my fingers and tried cutting them with this scissors!

Such sacrifice for the sake of this review huh? NOT! I'm more concerned with my 3 years old accidentally cutting himself so I experimented that and turns out this scissors is safe! I didn't cut my fingers at all and it doesn't leave any scratch or marks on my fingers as I applied pressure on the scissors. Of course, nobody ask you to really try to cut off your fingers, OK, so need to put some disclaimer here just in case... hahaha!

Would you just look at the pictures above and see how cute my 3 years old boy is when he cuts the paper? His mouth is actually opened when he is about the cut the paper! Cute!

Picture below is the close-up shot of him cutting the paper. One awesome feature about this scissors is that its' handles are designed for both left and right handed users! As of today, I think my boy is right-handed though I did caught him doodling with chalks on our balcony floor recently with 2 hands. So, I'm happy to know that this scissors cater for both left and right handed users!

My verdict of this awesome product? I already said it, it is awesome! And did you know this scissors comes with 5 years warranty?! Where else would you find products like this?!!! And for the price of it, I think it is VERY worth getting one (or two or more!) for your kids and even yourself!

I am so thankful to be given this opportunity to review the scissors and can heave a sigh of relief now when it comes to doing cutting exercises with my boy! Love love love this scissors!
