Our Thoughts on Farm in the City (FITC)

~ Posted on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 7:49 AM ~

During the recent Chinese New Year holidays, we went to Farm in the City (FITC) and we brought along a niece and a nephew with us. Our 3 kiddos love spending time with their cousins so we asked for our brother and sister in law's permissions to kidnap their 2 youngest kiddos so that we can bring them along with our family outing hahaha...

I'm a full-time mummy

We left from our place at 9-ish in the morning and arrived at our destination at 10.30am. Because it was still CNY holiday, there are lots of parking space available and very little crowd as well. Staff waited at the reception and greeted us with a warm welcome. We were ushered to the counter to purchase our family package tickets (RM109 for 2 adults and 2 children below 12 years old, free 2 pony ride for children)

Once we put on our sticker tag onto our wrists, we headed into the farm. Pictures below are some of the snapshots taken during our outing. Feeding giant tortoise, rabbits, guinea pigs, catching fishes, holding baby chicks, standing on ostrich egg, feeding birds, goats, fishes and many more, this place is fun! All 5 kiddos are excited and happily enjoying themselves!

Our nephew told hubby that he can stay on until 6pm (that's when the farm closes) but 2 adults with 5 kiddos, we can only managed to hang around the farm until almost 5pm. We were very tired and ran out of water supply LOL, left the farm happily and very satisfied and capped off the outing with a small tea break McDonalds treat.

Some proud mummy moments during the outing were:

  • Our 3 kiddos braving themselves to touch and feed some farm animals (tortoises, monkeys, birds, goats, baby chicks)

  • Watching our kiddos catching small fishes at the drains near the rabbits and guinea pigs petting area. They were so happy when they caught the fishes (which were released back unharm after that)

To sum up our review on Farm in the City (FITC):

PLUS POINTS:

  • Reasonable entrance fees

  • Up close encounter with farm animals

  • Lots of rest areas with benches and tables and shelters

  • Lots of washing areas with proper sink (even child-friendly sinks) and handwash liquid for you to wash your hands after touching, petting or feeding the farm animals

  • Stroller-friendly walkways

  • Food to feed farm animals are FREE and provided by staff stationed at the enclosures.

  • Friendly and helpful staff

  • Refreshment areas are clean up promptly

  • Lots of teaching and learning monents for kiddos - habitats, features, feeding, life cycles of farm animals, trees and plants.

BAD POINTS:

  • I was not able to get to the fruits/plants area as there is no stroller path going down so I ended up resting at a picnic table at the archway of the fruits/plants area with our 1.5 year old toddler who is napping that time.

Definitely worth going back to again and again! Totally recommended!

Agathians Shelter & IQ70 +

~ Posted on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8:54 AM ~

We had our 1st charity donation as a family yesterday. Hubby told me to look online for orphanages or shelters that are in need of donation and I found 2 and we started packing up and arranging and labelling all the items for easier sorting. Preloved clothes from our kiddos, myself and hubby. Toys, books new and old, groceries items and some laptops as well.

Hubby and our almost 6 years old boy went through the toys in our storeroom, hubby made our boy choose out the toys he no longer plays with, those that he wanted to give away and pass on to other children who will enjoy the toys.

We went to 2 charities home/shelters.

Agathians Shelter (Address: No. 22. Jalan Kelah 8/6, Seksyen 8, Petaling Jaya, 46050, Selangor)

"Agathians Shelter is a legally registered welfare home under the name: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Agathians Malaysia (0061-04-7). We are a welfare home located at Petaling Jaya. We have 40 boys who are either orphans, abandoned or from broken family, the age ranges between 5 till 20 years old."

We first went to the boys' shelter and gave away hubby's preloved working clothes, ties, casual shirts, T-shirts, preloved laptops and bought some groceries as well. As you can see from the picture below, I snapped the pictures from our car as our both our girls fell asleep while we were on the way to the boys' home. Some of the boys came out to help carry the items that we donated to them and while waiting, I told our almost 6 years old boy why there is such a place for the boys.

Malaysians, I know some of you might think that shelters and homes in Petaling Jaya (where I'm staying) are all funded by churches and NGOs, but Agathians Shelter doesn't seem like it. I think they deserve more exposure and help in any way you can. I snapped another picture as we drove off slowly while letting our boy peeped from our car on how the boys living conditions is in the shelter. I can see the boys lining up to wash their hands, getting ready for tea break or something.

IQ70 + or Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Malaysia (Malaysian Association for The Welfare of Mentally Challenged Children)

"As an embracement of love and responsibility towards mentally challenged children, Malaysia Association for the Welfare of Mentally Challenged Children has established since 27 March 2012 (registered on 4 January 2011) in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The association provides an all-day comprehensive humane assistance for children with mental disabilities and endeavors in building a safe and open living space to offer the children the superior conditions for healthy psychological growth.

The quote, “IQ70 +”, does not serve the purpose to tag mental disabilities. The “+” sign reflected our mission in leading the children to move forward by continue to seek more breakthroughs and hopes within the limited intelligence. It is a bridge built not only to break the gap between social responsibility and the public society, but to lead mentally challenged children to embrace and back to the society. IQ70 + can also be recognized as a home-liked shelter which is filled with laughter and loves for the Angels!"

We then continued our mission and went to the childrens' home and gave away our preloved clothes (kiddos and mine), toys, books (new and old) and again we bought some groceries as well. We had a bit of a difficulty trying to locate the place but that was partly because we overlooked the directions. By the time we reached there, our boy started feeling sleepy. But still, we got him to help carry the groceries from our car into the childrens' home. I stayed back and waited in the car with our girls while I told hubby to bring our boy in to have a look and to expose our boy into how other childrens' living conditions and situation is. The childrens' home is well kept and clean and smell of bleach, I can see up to 3 maids cleaning and taking care of the place.

Overall I feel happy to be able to give something to people who is less fortunate than us. I hope our children learn to be more appreciative, to share and be thankful with what they have.

Product Review - Breastfeeding Cover By Cik Gebu

~ Posted on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 6:56 AM ~

I have been cutting down on doing product reviews since last year and only accepted those that I feel will definitely fit into our family dynamics (books on parenting or homeschooling stuff, family products, those genre) Early in January this year, I received a PM from a fan of my page asking whether I would be willing to review her product and when I found out it is a breastfeeding cover, I say YES right away. I didn't even see how it looks like in actual size or usage, just said YES right away as I'm still breastfeeding our kiddos and I feel it is good to be able to try out more range of breastfeeding covers! Anyway, let's continue with my review below...

About the sponsor:
"By Cik Gebu was established in Jan 2014 selling knotted headband, kids' hijab and great baby skin tropical product. In October 2014, we wanted to have our own label of products by selling nursing cover which can be folded into a bag.

And hence, Breastfeeding Cover By Cik Gebu was born! Not only the nursing cover can be used for breastfeeding, it can also be use in other ways such as stroller cover from the sun, baby blanket, baby pillow when the nursing cover is in the form of a bag and can also be use as changing pad."

The owner sent me about 5 designs of the breastfeeding covers for me to choose and I ended up choosing this design below. Again, at the time of choosing this design, I have no expectations whatsoever on this breastfeeding cover other than I feel choosing darker striking colors suits my mood at that point. Personally, I was attracted to the color contrasts with the cute floral-like patterns on the cover.

FYI I tested the breastfeeding cover on the following areas:

* Features - I totally love the fact that the breastfeeding cover folded back easily into its own pouch. As a person who loves to do origami, folding this breastfeeding cover is as easy as folding origami crafts. But don't worry, even if you have no origami skills, you can easily fold the breastfeeding cover by gently following the zipped areas of the pouch.

By Cik Gebu

As the breastfeeding cover can be easily folded back into its own pouch, it takes up very minimal space in my diaper bag. In fact, the pouch came with a small strap that our eldest girl immediately strapped it onto her shoulder and pretended she's out for an outing.

By Cik Gebu

* Functionality - The breastfeeding cover is huge, it is 44 inches by 33 inches and covers all the sides and areas that are supposed to be covered, front, both sides and top with excess cloth. I feel at ease to be able to breastfeed wherever I am. The strap is also adjustable but I didn't adjust anything and just use it as it is. The sewing quality is good and secure.

By Cik Gebu

* Ventilation - Due to its cotton material, it has very good ventilation and breathable material and I don't feel myself or our girl being hot while she was tucked inside the cover during her nursing time. The breastfeeding cover has a solid peek a boo window that is big enough that our 16 months old girl stretched out her hand to wave while I snapped a quick picture of her nursing underneath the cover.

By Cik Gebu

* Other Usage - I also used the breastfeeding cover as a blanket when our girl is in the stroller and as a blanket when any of our 3 kiddos are feeling cold during our family outing.

In summary, I'm very happy to be given the opportunity to review this breastfeeding cover! It is now in my diaper bag everywhere I go and I am eager to use it and show it off at any given opportunity!
